THE ELECTIONS
To vote, registration on the electoral roll of the consular district is mandatory. Citizens who meet the legal requirements and are not registered on the electoral roll must apply for registration.
Forms for registration and removal from the electoral roll are available at the consular services and on our website. They must be duly completed, dated and signed by citizens of the consular district and sent by post or delivered to the consulate of registration.
Conditions and procedure for registration on the electoral roll :
- the citizen must be over the age of 18.
- be registered at the consulate
- enjoy civil and civic rights.
- Revision of the electoral list
The annual revision of the electoral roll takes place in the last quarter of the year.
The electoral list may also be revised on an exceptional basis when elections are called. The opening and closing dates of the exceptional revision period are determined by a presidential decree convening the electorate. The consulate publishes the notice of the opening and closing of the exceptional revision period of the electoral roll.
The revision of the electoral roll allows it to be updated. Voters who have changed their residence or who have not presented themselves at the consulate for more than ten years are automatically deleted, while new citizens registered in the consular district are invited to register.
Voting by proxy
A voter may, at his/her request, exercise the right to vote by proxy if he/she belongs to one of the following categories
- patients in hospital or at home
- severely disabled or sick persons
- citizens working outside the consular district and/or travelling, those detained at their place of work during voting and those temporarily abroad.
The deadline for submitting grievances is set out in the Rules of Procedure.
