The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received this evening the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, who is on an official visit to Algeria.
This visit comes in the context of preparations for the Security Council meeting on the Western Sahara issue next October, where the Personal Envoy is expected to report to the Council on his efforts to implement the mandate entrusted to him.  
In this context, the Minister of State reiterated Algeria's support for the efforts of the Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, and his Personal Envoy, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, to find a just, lasting and definitive solution to the Western Sahara issue, guaranteeing the inalienable and imprescriptible right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions. 
Mr. Ahmed Attaf also stressed the pivotal and vital role entrusted to the United Nations, noting the need for all efforts and initiatives aimed at organising direct and unconditional negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front, to be brought under its banner. 
In conclusion, the Minister of State reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to upholding the established international doctrine on decolonisation, praising the role of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) as one of the international community's commitments to decolonising Western Sahara, the last colony on the African continent.
